I am hooked on kindness. It’s what helps me get through the day. The good news is that the more I look for it, the more I find it. This morning, I watched a video by Caitlin Carvalho on how to make masks out of t-shirt sleeves. The video was helpful and worth watching, but what really got my attention was the song in the background, Frank Turner’s “Be More Kind.” Here’s a stanza and a link to the song.
And when you’re out there floundering Like a lighthouse I will shine Be more kind, my friends, try to be more kind
Frank Turner wrote “Be More Kind” in 2018, but like many things, it feels like it was written for today. The YouTube video I found has 846,295 views so I’m obviously not the first to “discover” this song. But in case you missed it or have forgotten about it – do yourself a favor and listen to it. You’ll be glad you did.
About Frank Turner
I have now listened to this song at least a dozen times and have begun to learn a little about Turner. When I first looked him up, I saw him described as a punk rocker and assumed I must have the wrong Frank Turner. But this line from a review helped explain that: “Many critics lambasted the former punk rocker for his softer folk-rock approach on Be More Kind. But it was an inspiring album that protested and promoted hope, community, and positive change after the election of President Donald Trump.” I also found an interview with him on NPR’s World Cafe: Frank Turner Breaks Down The ‘Collective Problem’ With Politics. Listening to it, I like him even more.
Listen to his music and the podcast and decide for yourself. You can also find more about Frank Turner and how to order his albums on his website.
Be More Kind
If you find stories, music, poems that speak to kindness – I hope you’ll share them here. We could all use them.
In the meantime, I hope you are able to be more kind to yourself and others.
